The location for ICAIL 2027 is Vienna, Austria — specifically the Juridicum, the building of the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna, located in the heart of Vienna's city centre on the Schottenbastei. Vienna sits on the Danube and is one of Central Europe's largest cities. The city is renowned for its imperial architecture, with landmarks such as the Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral, and Schönbrunn Palace, and for architectural styles ranging from Baroque to Historicism and Viennese Modernism. Vienna has a long history as a centre of music, science, and culture, and today serves as an international hub, home to several United Nations organisations and a meeting point for people from around the world.

Summer is an excellent time to visit Vienna. The weather is ideal for outdoor activities, such as a boat cruise on the Danube, cycling along the Danube Canal, strolling through the city's many parks and gardens, or shopping along Mariahilfer Straße and in the First District. Days are warm, with highs around 25–28 °C (77–82 °F), while nights cool down to a pleasant 16–20 °C (61–68 °F). The Juridicum is just a short walk from the Danube Canal as well as the Volksgarten and Sigmund-Freud-Park, making it easy to enjoy a bit of greenery during conference breaks.

Transportation

Vienna's S-Bahn main line is closed for the whole of the conference week. ÖBB is modernising the section between Wien Praterstern and Wien Hauptbahnhof from 7 September 2026 until 31 October 2027, and July 2027 falls inside that. The airport is still well connected, but not by the routes most guidebooks describe, so check your connection shortly before you travel and allow a little extra time.

While the line is closed:

  • CAT by bus replaces the City Airport Train between the airport and Wien Mitte-Landstraße, up to five times an hour from early morning until around midnight.
  • The S7 runs a shortened route ending at St. Marx, outside the city centre, with a tram or bus transfer onwards.
  • Railjet and REX 7 reach Wien Hauptbahnhof in roughly 15 to 20 minutes, and Wien Meidling, both with U-Bahn connections.
  • Vienna Airport Lines coaches serve several points in the city, among them Karlsplatz.

From Wien Mitte-Landstraße, take U-Bahn line U4 to Schottenring, then U2 towards Karlsplatz one stop to Schottentor/Universität. From Wien Hauptbahnhof, take U1 to Karlsplatz and change to U2 towards Seestadt, getting off at Schottentor/Universität.

From the Schottentor/Universität station it is only a few minutes' walk to the Juridicum at Schottenbastei 10–16, 1010 Vienna. Schottentor is a large tram interchange — lines 1, 37, 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44 and D all stop there. The nearest station on another U-Bahn line is Herrengasse on the U3, about ten minutes away on foot.
