About the conference
ICAIL is the primary international conference on artificial intelligence and law, held under the auspices of the International Association for Artificial Intelligence and Law.
The conference brings together researchers working on legal reasoning, argumentation, knowledge representation, natural language processing for legal text, and the governance of automated decision-making. ICAIL 2027 follows the 2026 edition in Singapore, the first held in Asia. The series has run since 1987 and has been annual rather than biennial since 2025, so the Vienna edition also marks its 40th anniversary.
The first call for papers is out. Alongside the main programme, ICAIL 2027 hosts the Trevor Bench-Capon Doctoral Consortium and the Karl Branting Industry Meeting, and three IAAIL awards are presented at the conference banquet.
The city
Vienna
ICAIL 2027 takes place at the Juridicum, the Faculty of Law of the University of Vienna, in the heart of the city centre on the Schottenbastei. Vienna sits on the Danube and is one of Central Europe's largest cities, renowned for its imperial architecture and its long history as a centre of music, science and culture.
The Juridicum is a short walk from the Danube Canal and the Volksgarten. The airport is 35 to 45 minutes away by public transport.
